Mobile registration renewal - the non-payment reason a line stops working

If paying a bill does not clear a suspension, the identity record is usually the cause. The regulator requires registered details to stay current, and operators bar lines whose registration has lapsed.

What gets checked

The line must be linked to a valid, current Emirates ID (or passport/visit visa for the relevant categories) belonging to the person who owns it. When the ID is renewed, expires, or the residency status changes, the registration has to be refreshed against it - including the number of lines a single ID carries.

Lines registered to a company are checked against the trade licence and the authorised signatory. A lapsed licence will bar the numbers attached to it, which is how a team's phones can go silent the week after renewal season.

How to renew, without a queue

The renewal is a short self-service flow in the app or at a kiosk/branch: scan the ID, confirm the numbers registered to you, done. Where a biometric step is required, that has to happen in person.

Use the 'how many lines are registered to me' check while you are there. Numbers registered to you that you no longer use - old work lines, a line given to a relative - are a liability, and they are also the most common reason an otherwise clean renewal fails.

If your line was barred for this reason

Paying the outstanding balance will not help. Refresh the registration, then ask for the bar to be lifted with the reference from the completed renewal; the line usually returns within the hour, sometimes only after a restart so it re-registers on the network.

Where to check it yourself

These pages belong to the operator and the regulator - open them side by side with your own bill or app before acting on anything here.

Verify this yourself in two minutes

  • Prices and inclusions: the operator's own plan page for your emirate, then the same figure on the order form you signed.
  • Your line state: the My du app - Account > Services shows suspension, bar, data cap and contract end.
  • Faults in your area: My du app > Support > Outage status, or 155 from a du mobile (free).
  • Anything regulatory (billing disputes, escalation): TDRA - your complaint must cite the ticket number du gave you, dated.

Confirm the current fee and the exact menu path in the operator app before you act on anything here.

If a number on this page and a number in your app disagree, the app wins - and we would like to know: WhatsApp us the screenshot and we correct the page.
