Roaming packs, Easy Roaming and the moment it goes wrong
Zones, preferred networks and the exact activation sequence are where roaming money is lost - not the price of the pack.

Pick by how long you are away and how much you use - the price is the whole price, there is no bundle you have to add to it.

Fine print that changes the price, and how to verify it
The sheet prints 5120 for this one; the operator's roaming page lists the same keyword to 5102. Confirm the short code in the app before sending - a mis-sent keyword is the usual reason a pack never appears.
Cannot be stacked: this 15-day pack is bought after the pack you are on has expired.
Validity starts the moment the pack is activated, not when you land. Buy the 1-day and 7-day packs on the day you fly.
Packs only count on the preferred partner network in the destination - the next section is the one that saves the bill.

Easy Roaming, situation by situation
The single most common failure is not the pack - it is trying to activate roaming by SMS from a country where the line has no roaming service yet. Use the row that matches your line.
| Your situation | What is true | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Business line on a corporate contract, in the UAE | International Roaming is normally active by default at no extra cost - check before you buy anything else | SMS 'Roaming' to 5102 to confirm; if it is not active, your company administration enables it |
| Business employee line (you pay your own bill), in the UAE | Easy Roaming is self-service by SMS from the du number | SMS 'EASY' to 5102, wait for the confirmation, then buy the pack |
| Any du number, abroad, with International Roaming already active | Pack purchase and Easy Roaming both work by SMS from the handset | SMS 'Easy' to 5102, then SMS 'Data' or 'Voice' to 5102 for the pack list |
| Abroad, no roaming service on the line - the SMS disappears | There is no signalling path for the SMS, so nothing you text will take effect | Dial *155# on the du number; or have someone call +971 555 678155 (+971 555 678188 on corporate) from another phone to have it switched on; or the authorised account holder subscribes the line to Easy Roaming in the business account portal |
| Prepaid / Pay as you go | Service and data are both off unless you turn them on, and the wallet must cover the fee | SMS 'easy' to 5102, then *135*20# abroad to buy a roaming data pack or enable pay-per-use |
| Company travel desk acting for the traveller | Portal route works while the SIM cannot act | Sign in as the authorised account holder, open the line, subscribe Easy Roaming, then send the traveller the pack keyword to text on arrival |
On a corporate line, ask your administration to confirm International Roaming first: if it is already on, Easy Roaming is unnecessary and the packs work straight away.
Codes and short numbers worth keeping
| Do this | How |
|---|---|
| Check Roaming Status | SMS 'Roaming' to 5102 |
| List Data Packs | SMS 'Data' to 5102 |
| List Voice Packs | SMS 'Voice' to 5102 |
| Activate Easy Roaming | SMS 'Easy' to 5102 (from the du number, in the UAE or abroad) |
| Ussd Abroad No Ir | Dial *155# while abroad to activate Easy Roaming |
| Abroad Helpdesk | +971 555 678155 (ask from another number to have Easy Roaming switched on) |
| Corporate Helpdesk | +971 555 678188 (corporate / business lines) |
| Lost Or Stolen | +971 555 678155 - the line can be suspended for 5 days to stop misuse |
| Prepaid Roaming Data | Roaming data is off by default on prepaid: dial *135*20# abroad to buy a pack or enable pay-per-use (balance must cover it) |
| Balance Check | the du app or the self-care data portal |
| Alerts | SMS at 70%, 80% and 100% of the bundle |
The preferred-network trap
- Packs are built for the preferred partner networks in each destination. On any other operator the bundle does not apply, so you are on standard roaming rates rather than out-of-bundle charges.
- Check the preferred partner for the country before you fly, then again on arrival if data is not counting against the pack.
- Restart the phone when you land, and if registration looks wrong, select the network by hand instead of leaving it automatic.
- In destinations where 2G and 3G have been retired, only 4G/LTE data exists: voice and SMS need VoLTE on both the handset and the visited network.
- Enable Data Roaming in the phone settings - a line with the pack and the setting off shows full bars and no internet.
Before you fly: the checklist that prevents the bill
- Confirm roaming is active on the line, not only enabled on the handset.
- Buy the pack the day you travel: validity starts at activation, not on landing.
- Set a data cap and switch background sync off for cloud drives.
- Keep Wi-Fi calling on where it is permitted so calls home leave the bill.
- Save the pack confirmation SMS - it is the only reference a dispute accepts.
- Check the 70/80/100% alerts are arriving, and note the balance view you will use abroad.
- If the phone is lost abroad, call +971 555 678155 from any phone to have the line suspended.
Questions people actually send us about roaming
Can I activate Easy Roaming from my business number by SMS?
Yes, if you are the payment responsible for the line: send the word EASY to 5102 from that number. Corporate lines on an enterprise contract usually have International Roaming already active at no extra cost - check with your company administration first, because if IR is on you do not need Easy Roaming at all.
I am already out of the country and the SMS did nothing - why?
That is the classic case. From abroad, an SMS only works if the line already has a roaming service on it. With no International Roaming and no Easy Roaming, the message may never leave the visited network. Three ways out: dial *155# on the du number while abroad, have someone call the roaming helpdesk from another number and ask them to switch Easy Roaming on, or the authorised account holder signs into the business account portal and subscribes the line to Easy Roaming there. The portal route is the one to use when the traveller cannot get the SIM to act.
Do I need Easy Roaming to buy a roaming data pack?
You need one of the two: International Roaming active on the line, or Easy Roaming active. Buy the pack only after one of them shows as active, otherwise the pack sits there unused while the phone charges standard rates.
I bought a pack abroad and my data still does not work.
Nine times out of ten the phone is on a non-preferred partner network. The travel packs are built for the operator's preferred networks in each destination; on any other operator the bundle does not apply and you are on standard rates. Turn off automatic network selection, pick a preferred partner from the country list, then restart the phone. Also check that Data Roaming is enabled in the phone's settings and that the line has the pack confirmed by SMS.
Will I be charged out-of-bundle rates on a non-preferred network?
The bundle will not work there, so usage is billed at the applicable standard roaming rates rather than out-of-bundle pack rates. That is why the preferred-partner check before you fly matters more than the price of the pack.
Can I stack two roaming packs?
You can hold several one-off packs at the same time, with one exception on the sheet: the 15-day AED 350 voice-and-data pack is bought after the pack you are using has expired, not alongside it.
When does the validity clock start?
Immediately at activation, not when you land. Buy the 1-day and 7-day packs on the day you fly, not a week early, and the 60/365-day packs can be bought whenever.
Can I use the discounted Easy Roaming voice rates inside the UAE?
No. The service is only priced while you are roaming on a preferred network abroad; at home the normal plan rates apply.
Does the pack work in countries that switched off 2G and 3G?
In destinations where those networks have been retired, only 4G/LTE data is available; voice and SMS need VoLTE on both the phone and the visited network. If your handset has no VoLTE, expect data-only. Check the destination note on the operator's roaming page before you rely on calls.
My phone was stolen while travelling.
Call the roaming helpdesk from any number to have the line suspended (they can hold it for five days), then report it for the SIM to be replaced. Also block the device by IMEI with the police report, and change passwords on any account that received OTPs on that number.
How do I check what the trip actually cost me?
Bundle usage is visible in the app and on the self-care data portal; the pack confirmation SMS plus the 70/80/100% alerts are what you quote in a billing dispute. Keep them - a roaming dispute without a reference number is a coin flip.
Is Easy Roaming available on prepaid?
Yes, with two extra conditions: the wallet needs enough balance for the service and for data, and roaming data is disabled by default on prepaid, so it is switched on from the prepaid service code while abroad or by buying a roaming data pack where one is offered.
Where this page is thin on purpose
We publish the pack prices from the sheet the desk holds and nothing else. Per-minute roaming rates, standard rates by country and the preferred-partner list change with the season - read them in the operator’s own roaming page for your destination, and if a figure here disagrees with it, the operator is right and we want to know.
Where to check it yourself
- The operator's own plan and support pages - the text your order form was written from
- The regulator's complaint portal - what to file, in what order, with which evidence
These pages belong to the operator and the regulator - open them side by side with your own bill or app before acting on anything here.
Verify this yourself in two minutes
- Prices and inclusions: the operator's own plan page for your emirate, then the same figure on the order form you signed.
- Your line state: the My du app - Account > Services shows suspension, bar, data cap and contract end.
- Faults in your area: My du app > Support > Outage status, or 155 from a du mobile (free).
- Anything regulatory (billing disputes, escalation): TDRA - your complaint must cite the ticket number du gave you, dated.
Send us the destination and dates and we will tell you which pack on the sheet fits, and whether your line needs Easy Roaming at all.
If a number on this page and a number in your app disagree, the app wins - and we would like to know: WhatsApp us the screenshot and we correct the page.
