Quick answer
Why a coloured coverage area and a usable connection are different claims, how extended-area offers work, and what to do in a basement or an outskirt.

Coverage maps describe the plan, not your room. A coloured polygon means service is expected somewhere in that area; it does not mean usable signal behind three concrete walls, in a basement, on the far side of a hill, or in a building whose glazing is the problem. Outskirt addresses can also fall into an extended or outzone classification, where service exists under a different offer than the standard one.

Coverage, outzones and "no signal at home" - what decides it

The practical move is to ask for the classification of your address at unit level, in writing, and which offer applies to that classification. Coverage complaints get solved when people stop arguing with a map and start asking for the address record.

Will this address get fibre or only 5G home wireless?

Availability is per building, not per area: the same street can have a passed fibre riser in one tower and none next door. Check the unit number, not the neighbourhood.

Steps

  1. Send the building name plus unit number - area-level answers are useless.
  2. If fibre is not passed, 5G home wireless is the fallback with no civil works.
  3. In out-of-service or fringe zones, offer sets differ; some promotions only apply inside the published offer-area list.
  4. New builds: ask the developer/NOC whether the riser is commissioned before you book a slot.
  5. We run this check free on WhatsApp - typically a couple of minutes.

Is du down right now?

Before you troubleshoot, confirm the outage - a network fault in your area means your reboot and your settings do not matter, and the ticket you file will be merged into the incident anyway.

Steps

  1. Check the du app status/support screen for a logged incident against your line.
  2. One neighbour plus one device failing = likely area issue; one device failing = local issue.
  3. Look for the same symptom in your building group chat or the public outage threads.
  4. Note the start time; credits are calculated from when the fault began, not when you called.
  5. Send us the area and the router lights and we will tell you whether it is already a known incident.

du internet slow: prove it before you change anything

Speed complaints split into two very different problems: the line is genuinely slow (then du owes you a fix) or only Wi-Fi in one room is slow (then a router or mesh change fixes it, and du will not). Measure over Ethernet with a wired speed test at 8pm, when the node is busy, and you have the evidence for whichever conversation you need.

Steps

  1. Test with a cable into the router, or stand next to it, at 20:00-23:00 - peak load is when promises break.
  2. Compare the number with the tier you pay for; 60-70% of a 500 Mbps fibre plan is normal over Wi-Fi, less than 20% is not.
  3. Check the device list - one phone updating or a laptop backing up can eat the whole pipe.
  4. Turn off "smart connect"/band steering if a gaming console or meeting laptop keeps landing on 2.4 GHz.
  5. If the wired test fails, run a speed test on the du app so the result lands in their system, then open the ticket with that reference.

How to run a speed test that du will accept

One number from a random website will not move a fault ticket. A result taken over Ethernet, on the du network, logged through the du app or Speedtest with the test ID saved, is evidence an agent has to answer.

Steps

  1. Connect one device with an Ethernet cable directly to the router.
  2. Turn off VPN and any other heavy device on the network.
  3. Run the du app speed test (or a test that stores a result ID) three times: morning, 8pm, midnight.
  4. Screenshot the result IDs plus your account number before you open the ticket.
  5. If the wired figure is under half your tier at midnight, that is a line fault - request a technician visit with those IDs.

Checklist before you contact support

If you need to escalate

  1. Only then move to the formal complaint route with the whole thread attached. Regulators ask what the operator said, so the operator answer is your document.
  2. Take the evidence, not the adjective: one wired test at the time the fault happens, with the date and the figure, plus the indicator state. That is what changes the queue you are put in.
  3. Ask for a fault record and a reference number in writing, and ask what the committed resolution time is - then do not close the ticket when someone calls to say it is done.
  4. If the committed time passes, ask for a supervisor and for the written response, naming the missed commitment and requesting the credit schedule.

The same ladder is used for every coverage case on this site, because the order is what changes the outcome - not the words you happen to use.

What to send us on WhatsApp

For "Coverage, outzones and "no signal at home": what a map does" specifically, lead with the symptom and the address - the rest is context a reader of this guide already has.

  1. Your account number and whether you are inside a contract term
  2. A photo of the router lights, and your last bill if money is the question
  3. What is broken or what you want, in one line
  4. Your emirate and building/unit (not just the area name)
  5. Whether you are on fibre or a wireless unit, and the router model if you know it

Frequently asked questions

How do I check whether my villa is in an extended area?
Ask for the classification of your specific plot or unit and the offer that applies to it. A public map will not tell you this, and extended-area offers are often where better pricing sits precisely because standard bundles do not apply.
Why does my neighbour have signal and I do not?
Indoor signal is geometry: orientation to the site, floor, glazing, and which band your phone prefers. Adjacent villas routinely differ by many dB, and the fix is usually placement, an approved indoor option, or an antenna - not a new plan.
Will a booster fix it?
Only operator-approved equipment, and only when the outdoor source is strong enough to be worth amplifying; a repeater raises noise as well as signal. Ask what is permitted on your account before buying anything - unapproved amplifiers degrade the cell you are standing in.
Is 5G available everywhere?
No. Coverage is dense in major urban areas and patchy elsewhere, and the experience depends on which band is deployed near you. In an outskirt a strong 4G connection beats a theoretical 5G one; test the band a device actually camps on.

How this page was built

Plan names, prices and offer wording are read from verified resources, checked on 2026-09-12 20:27 UTC. Procedures follow the du Help Center articles named under each section. Demand figures - the search volumes in the tables - come from a licensed UAE search-demand dataset, which is where the "real searches" phrasings are taken from. Where a number depends on your address, your wall box or your contract start, the page says a quote is needed instead of estimating it. Nothing on this page is scraped from an aggregator or copied from another comparison site. Applied to Coverage, outzones and "no signal at home": what a map does.
