Quick answer
A worked order for finding the fault, what to tell support so they cannot skip you, and how to make escalation bite.

Support scripts are designed to be run in order and to end quickly. Arrive having already completed steps one to four, with the exact light state and your account number, and the ticket starts three stages later. That is the difference between an hour of restarting and a booked visit.

Do not escalate on feeling. Escalate on a reproducible pattern: the same fault at the same hours, on a wired test, five times, recorded. That is a fault report a network team cannot route back to you.

Internet not working - what decides it

Write the pattern down before you call: what fails, when, for how long, and what was different when it worked. "It drops at 8 pm and recovers in a few minutes" is a diagnosis. "Internet is bad" is a callback loop.

du home internet not working - the 5-minute check

Nine times out of ten a dead du line is the optical signal, not your Wi-Fi. Look at the router: a solid or blinking red LOS/light means no signal is reaching your home, so the fix is at the ONT or the street cabinet and needs du to reschedule a technician. If the power and WAN lights are green and only Wi-Fi is dead, it is local and you can fix it yourself.

Steps

  1. Check the light pattern first: power, WAN/optical, Wi-Fi. Red optical = line fault, not a settings problem.
  2. Restart once - unplug the router for 30 seconds, not 5, then wait 3 minutes for the ONT to re-register.
  3. Look for a known outage in your area before touching settings (du app > support, or the status thread for your building).
  4. If the optical cable or the small white ONT box was knocked (cleaning, moving furniture), reseat the blue-tipped fibre connector gently - never bend it.
  5. Still red after a reboot? Open the du app and raise a fault so the ticket timestamp starts now; escalate to us on WhatsApp and we will chase the job number.

Router red light: what each colour actually means

A red or orange LOS/optical light means the fibre signal is not arriving; a red WAN light means the signal arrives but authentication to du failed; a red internet light with a green WAN usually means an IP/DNS problem on your side. Fixing the wrong one wastes a day, so identify the light first.

Steps

  1. Read the label next to the light: LOS, PON/Optical, WAN, Internet, Wi-Fi. PON solid green = line fine.
  2. LOS red: check the thin fibre lead for a kink or a pulled connector, then reboot once. Do not open the ONT.
  3. WAN red: your account may be suspended or the PPPoE credentials dropped - check for an unpaid bill or a recent plan change, then reboot.
  4. Internet red with green WAN: forget the network on one device and reconnect; if every device fails, clone the DNS to 1.0.0.1 / 8.8.8.8 in the router LAN settings.
  5. Send us a photo of the lights on WhatsApp and we will tell you which queue the ticket belongs in - fault, billing, or settings.

How to run a speed test that du will accept

One number from a random website will not move a fault ticket. A result taken over Ethernet, on the du network, logged through the du app or Speedtest with the test ID saved, is evidence an agent has to answer.

Steps

  1. Connect one device with an Ethernet cable directly to the router.
  2. Turn off VPN and any other heavy device on the network.
  3. Run the du app speed test (or a test that stores a result ID) three times: morning, 8pm, midnight.
  4. Screenshot the result IDs plus your account number before you open the ticket.
  5. If the wired figure is under half your tier at midnight, that is a line fault - request a technician visit with those IDs.

Is du down right now?

Before you troubleshoot, confirm the outage - a network fault in your area means your reboot and your settings do not matter, and the ticket you file will be merged into the incident anyway.

Steps

  1. Check the du app status/support screen for a logged incident against your line.
  2. One neighbour plus one device failing = likely area issue; one device failing = local issue.
  3. Look for the same symptom in your building group chat or the public outage threads.
  4. Note the start time; credits are calculated from when the fault began, not when you called.
  5. Send us the area and the router lights and we will tell you whether it is already a known incident.

Internet keeps disconnecting every few minutes

Regular drops have three common causes: a marginal fibre/optical link, a router overheating in a cabinet, or a device roaming between two access points. The pattern tells you which - a drop every 5 minutes looks like line flapping, while a drop when you walk upstairs is roaming.

Steps

  1. Note the time between drops; if it is consistent, it is almost always line-level, not your laptop.
  2. Touch the router: hot units throttle and drop. Add airflow or move it out of the cupboard.
  3. Check for an old firmware banner in the router admin page (192.168.1.1 for most du units).
  4. If you have two SSIDs from one router or an extender, name them apart and pin the important device to the router itself.
  5. Ask for an optical power reading on the fault ticket - dBm out of range means a splice or patch problem, not a settings problem.

Activating a new du SIM or line

Activation is an identity step, not a technical one: the SIM is live once the Emirates ID/passport check clears, and most "SIM not working" tickets are an unregistered line or a locked device.

Steps

  1. Register with Emirates ID (residents) or passport (visitors) at a store, kiosk or through the app.
  2. Insert the SIM, restart the phone, wait for the network SMS - that is the activation signal.
  3. For a postpaid number transfer, complete the port request with the losing operator details.
  4. If the phone shows "no service", test the SIM in another handset to separate device from line.
  5. Visitors: a tourist line has a fixed life; extend or convert before it expires.

Mistakes that cost people money

If you need to escalate

  1. Only then move to the formal complaint route with the whole thread attached. Regulators ask what the operator said, so the operator answer is your document.
  2. Take the evidence, not the adjective: one wired test at the time the fault happens, with the date and the figure, plus the indicator state. That is what changes the queue you are put in.
  3. Ask for a fault record and a reference number in writing, and ask what the committed resolution time is - then do not close the ticket when someone calls to say it is done.
  4. If the committed time passes, ask for a supervisor and for the written response, naming the missed commitment and requesting the credit schedule.

The same ladder is used for every problems & fixes case on this site, because the order is what changes the outcome - not the words you happen to use.

What to send us on WhatsApp

For "Internet not working: the full fault ladder, from one red" specifically, lead with the symptom and the address - the rest is context a reader of this guide already has.

  1. Your emirate and building/unit (not just the area name)
  2. Whether you are on fibre or a wireless unit, and the router model if you know it
  3. Your account number and whether you are inside a contract term
  4. A photo of the router lights, and your last bill if money is the question
  5. What is broken or what you want, in one line

Frequently asked questions

The internet light is red - is that always my end?
No. A red WAN indicator after one successful power cycle usually means the network is not authenticating your service: provisioning, an outage, or a suspended account. Check the maintenance view and your bill state first, then report - no local change fixes a network-side state.
Can I see outages before I call?
Yes. The operator publishes planned and current network maintenance by area, and the account app reflects service state. Screenshot it with the timestamp and quote it in the ticket, because support cannot treat a public outage as your local fault.
How long before they must respond?
Fault resolution is bound by the consumer protection framework for timeframes and for compensation when a commitment is missed. Quote the ticket number, the reported time, and ask for the resolution commitment in writing.
They say it is fixed but it is not.
Do not open a new ticket. Reply in the same thread, ask for it to be reopened, record that closure was premature, then move to the escalation level in the protection framework with your measurement log attached.

How this page was built

Plan names, prices and offer wording are read from verified resources, checked on 2026-09-12 20:27 UTC. Procedures follow the du Help Center articles named under each section. Demand figures - the search volumes in the tables - come from a licensed UAE search-demand dataset, which is where the "real searches" phrasings are taken from. Where a number depends on your address, your wall box or your contract start, the page says a quote is needed instead of estimating it. Nothing on this page is scraped from an aggregator or copied from another comparison site. Applied to Internet not working: the full fault ladder, from one red light.
