Porting your number: MNP rules, timelines and the four rejection causes
A worked port-out: the data that must match, what to do about postpaid balances, and how to survive the window your phone is dead.

Porting is a data-matching exercise, not a phone call. Account number, Emirates ID and outstanding-balance state have to agree between both operators; any mismatch produces a rejection that restarts the clock. Get those three right and it is uneventful.
Expect a short blackout at cut-over, schedule it away from work calls, and keep the old SIM available until the new line takes traffic.

Porting your number - what decides it
Two practical traps: a number on a company account needs that sponsor to approve, and an outstanding balance can block a postpaid port-out. Clear both before you submit - neither can be fixed while the request is pending.
Porting a number to or from du (MNP)
Steps
- Make sure the number is active, Emirates ID valid, and no outstanding dues on the current line.
- Get a new SIM/eSIM from the operator you are joining and submit the port request there.
- Do not cancel the old line yourself first - that kills the port.
- Expect a short outage window during the swap; keep both phones charged and the account number to hand.
- For fixed lines and home internet, porting is not the same process - book the new install before you disconnect.

Activating a new du SIM or line
Steps
- Register with Emirates ID (residents) or passport (visitors) at a store, kiosk or through the app.
- Insert the SIM, restart the phone, wait for the network SMS - that is the activation signal.
- For a postpaid number transfer, complete the port request with the losing operator details.
- If the phone shows "no service", test the SIM in another handset to separate device from line.
- Visitors: a tourist line has a fixed life; extend or convert before it expires.

What a du connection actually costs per month
Steps
- Ask for the post-promo monthly price, not the intro price - the contract is what you pay for 24 months.
- Confirm whether the AED figure excludes the 5% VAT and the one-off activation/installation fees.
- Check if the router is included, rented or purchased; a "free router" is usually a rented unit you return on exit.
- For fibre, confirm the building riser is live before paying an install-related charge.
- Send us the address and the tier and we will pull the current published quote for that exact combination.

Line suspended for non-payment: the fastest route back
Steps
- Pay the outstanding amount through the app, and keep the transaction reference.
- Wait for the SMS confirmation; if the line is still barred after 30-60 minutes, contact support to refresh the state.
- If it has moved from "suspended" to "ceased", data may already be scheduled for removal - act the same day.
- Set up auto-pay or a balance alert so this does not repeat; a second suspension is harder to reverse.
- Disputing the charge? Pay first, then dispute - a disputed bill still suspends.

Checklist before you contact support
- Confirm account number and ID exactly as registered
- Settle or acknowledge postpaid balances before requesting
- Spend prepaid credit down before cut-over
- Get sponsor approval on a company-owned number
- Schedule cut-over outside working hours
- Test inbound and outbound calls before cancelling anything
If you need to escalate
- Take the evidence, not the adjective: one wired test at the time the fault happens, with the date and the figure, plus the indicator state. That is what changes the queue you are put in.
- Ask for a fault record and a reference number in writing, and ask what the committed resolution time is - then do not close the ticket when someone calls to say it is done.
- If the committed time passes, ask for a supervisor and for the written response, naming the missed commitment and requesting the credit schedule.
- Only then move to the formal complaint route with the whole thread attached. Regulators ask what the operator said, so the operator answer is your document.
The same ladder is used for every activation & changes case on this site, because the order is what changes the outcome - not the words you happen to use.

How this page was built
Plan names, prices and offer wording are read from verified resources, checked on 2026-09-12 20:27 UTC. Procedures follow the du Help Center articles named under each section. Demand figures - the search volumes in the tables - come from a licensed UAE search-demand dataset, which is where the "real searches" phrasings are taken from. Where a number depends on your address, your wall box or your contract start, the page says a quote is needed instead of estimating it. Nothing on this page is scraped from an aggregator or copied from another comparison site. Applied to Porting your number: MNP rules, timelines and the four rejection.
Where to check it yourself
- The operator's own plan and support pages - the text your order form was written from
These pages belong to the operator and the regulator - open them side by side with your own bill or app before acting on anything here.
Verify this yourself in two minutes
- Prices and inclusions: the operator's own plan page for your emirate, then the same figure on the order form you signed.
- Your line state: the My du app - Account > Services shows suspension, bar, data cap and contract end.
- Faults in your area: My du app > Support > Outage status, or 155 from a du mobile (free).
- Anything regulatory (billing disputes, escalation): TDRA - your complaint must cite the ticket number du gave you, dated.
If a number on this page and a number in your app disagree, the app wins - and we would like to know: WhatsApp us the screenshot and we correct the page.
